...I recently asked a question about what people's opinion was on two different cruise lines. One girl said she would choose Celebrity over Royal but not if it was on the Millennium going out of San Juan. She said "if your Millennium cruise is departing from San Juan, that may affect the cruise experience." Why would she say this and is it true?

"I read that person's comment and I think it shows her (or someones') prejudices. I have done two cruises that departed from Puerto Rico and both were great. But I think what this person may be referring to is a reference to the passenger demographics on our last cruise departing from there. We did that cruise on the RC's Adventure of the Seas a couple yrs ago and although I didn't notice it when I booked the cruise, it turned out to be on Mother's day. I am not sure if or how that had an impact on demographics but as it turned out about 50% of the passengers were from Puerto Rico and a good number from Mexico. Now that didn't bother me one bit but it could well have made some closed minded people uncomfortable. But I think the real reason there were so many people on board from PR is that particular cruise date was really cheap. It was maybe $100 to $200 less per person than other weeks for the same cruise. So people who lived in PR could go for even less since they didn't have to pay air fare to get to PR. But the extremely low fare was just why I picked that date to go. On my previous cruise from PR on the Norwegian's Dreamward the demographics were not like that. So, in my opinion there is absolutely nothing wrong with cruising from PR.

I have cruised from Miami on dates that had real bargain fares and there were lots of Cubans and Hispanics on the ship because it was a cheap date to cruise. And I know for sure that there is nothing wrong with cruising on the Millennium, I just spent 2 weeks on it in February.

I have cruised on ships where there were lots of Orientals, and on others lots of Brazilians and Portuguese. But you never know when you cruise what the demographics will be; you just learn that people from places other than the US have somewhat different ways and deal with it. And then I have been on some cruises where most people were from the US and they got on my nerves too!! LOL"
