...Neither I or my boyfriend has ever been on a cruise. I would really like to plan a nice trip for us. He's 22 and I am 21. What do you think is the best cruise line, best destinations, and best priced cruises? Any info would be awesome. Were on a budget, so Im looking for the best prices too. Thank you
"CARNIVAL :] Ive been on 3 of them and i havent been disappointed once. There are so many activities.
Check out www.carnivalcruiselines.com
You can pretend your booking a cruise online and change up the dates and places to find the cheapest yet suitable cruise and itll give you the grand total and the next step is the credit card information if you like it :]
Personally I would go on an eastern carribbean for 7 nights :] and since youre young there are going to be so many activities, clubs, bars, poolside games that the whole ship comes out to watch because its helarious: i recently went on Carnival Triumph and a few of the games were THE HAIRY CHEST COMPETITION, THE SCAVENGER HUNT (where the worker who is directing the game picks a few people and she tells them like to find a bikini top from someone whos willing to give it, and its timed. its all amazing)
Theres so much to describe. But if you have any other questions that come up about anything you can email me : Lindseymich07@yahoo.com
:] good luck"

...I am going on a 7 day cruise to Alaska and Canada on July 17 with Celebrity cruise line and staying in Vancouver for three days too. I'm a teen (14). Can someone give me a list of the exact things I should bring?
Heres the exact cruise:
http://www.celebritycruises.com/search/vacationItinerary.do;jsessionid=0000Xiw0wHl7y-B07jO2AWJqmav:12hdbcuh7?packageCode=ML07A038&backPageName=Itinerary+Search+Results
Also- I've been on plenty of cruises before (mainly to the Caribbean and once to Hawaii) and I live in Florida. Needless to say I'm not exactly well prepared for Alaska!! My entire wordrobe consists of shorts and tank tops and t-shirts. I have a couple of light jackets and 1 or 2 pairs of jeans so I know I have to go shopping!!
"The main thing that you may want to buy is a hoodie, a sweat shirt with a hood and make sure that you have a light jacket that will fit over it.
I have been to Alaska twice, once on business for two weeks in June and then on a cruise inside passage and land tour in May. What you need to pack is not that much different from any other cruise or trip. The weather in Alaska on land can be very pleasant; maybe in the 70's during the day, in July, even up into the 80's. It will likely be rainy in a couple of your port stops like Juneau and Ketchkan. Not a downpour but light showers.
It will be pleasant on ship while you are in inside area but breezy and chilly on open decks. When you get near the icebergs and glaciers it will be cold. And I mean like hat, coat and gloves cold. But the way to dress is layer your clothes so you will be warm enough when its cold but not too hot when you are in warmer areas. Instead of a ski jacket, take a lighter one that you can wear comfortably over a sweater or hoodie. Take some long sleeved shirts and slacks or jeans. Take a cap or hat and even gloves. plan in packing to be able to layer your clothing with underclothes, shirt, sweater, jacket for your dress each day.
I cruised on the Celebrity Millennium and it has areas where you can see things without being outside. It also has a solarium, a glass covered pool and hot tub area that is for those adults but you can probably use it with your parents.
The dress on ship is casual all day until 6:00PM. So take:
- swim wear,
-sun glasses and sun screen, lotions,
-a warmup suit or sweats to relax on ship in,
- a hoodie and a jacket that you can wear over it,
- a hat and gloves for when you get near the glaciers and ice fields,
- a rain poncho because it will likely rain in Ketchakan and/or Juneau,
-a book if you are a reader,
-your music player,
-good walking shoes,
-your camera, and binoculars,
-other personal toiletries.
Don't over pack , take clothes that you can mix and match tops and bottoms and plan to wear each piece twice."

...ok so im only 15 and my family hardly ever goes on good vacations. when my parents were together we went to myrtle beach almost every year and i went on a cruise to mexico in 7th grade. and that was the best week of my life and i wish we could do those things again but my dads gf ruins all of them and stuff...but anyway i want to go on a cruise with friends or whatever when im older (like 21 i think thats the youngest you can be) but anyway i want to go on a really nice one to spain (and other countries it just has to include spain) id like it to be 14 days but i doubt ill have THAT much money to throw away when im 21. what goes into planning? what are they charging you for? anything i should do to make sure i save enough money? i have $1000 in the bank already so i actually do save my money and i dont even have a job. (its from babysitting and a paper route i did a few years ago) but how much do i need for just myself? if my friends are going are they cheaper cause theyre adding on? give as much information as you can thanks :)
"Hi Sam,
I like your style!
In today's prices I think you should count on at least $100-$125 per day per person on a cruise ship as you describe. Many European cruises are longer than some we have here, so you will probably be on a 12-14 day cruise. Of course the rooms are for two... no discounts until you add a third or fourth person.
Of course, you must include airfare to Europe.... You can find prices all over the place, but for planning purposes, figure about $500 per person R/T.
At every port of call, you will want to do something, and that costs money. Sometimes a lot of money. Figure on a 12 day cruise, at least $400 on shore excursions per person... just a number.
So you are at least $4,000+ for a two person cruise. That sounds pretty light compared to what I have spent in the past....
Here's an alternative: Do a cruise out of the US where you don't have to spend so much on air travel, and can usually find cheaper, shorter cruises.
As for Spain, speak to your counselor at school about summer travel programs in Spain. When you go as a group, you can find some terrific bargains and you have experienced leaders with you... and you don't have to wait until you are 21. Some involve study where you will actually get school credits... and they are fun. Some are for a month or more!
Start taking spanish classes in school now!
BTW... you can go with other adults on a cruise if you find someone who is going. There are different groups... just keep your eyes and ears open for ideas.
ALSO: Start looking around for jobs on a cruise ship after you turn 18. Could be a great way to spend a year before going to college!
Keep kicking ideas around, and never stop dreaming! Set your goals and keep trying... you will make it!

...Hello there! Thanks for viewing my question!
I am looking at Cruises and I realized I still didn't get my Passport updated so I was wondering if you needed a passport to go to the following places: (Also the cruise line is Royal Caribbean)
Miami, Florida
Nassau, Bahamas
Cococay, Bahamas
Key West, Florida
Would an ID or a student ID be ok?
Thank you.
"A student ID would not suffice. You will need your original birth certificate or a certified copy and a governmental proof of ID for closed-loop cruise travel.
See "traveling by sea" on attached website.
http://www.dhs.gov/xprevprot/programs/gc_1200693579776.shtm ..
The U.S. birth certificate and a U.S. photo ID are required in lieu of a passport to enter the Bahamas.

...can anyone suggest, do I pay the expensive fee's the cruise line want for excursions or simply do our own thing?
"YES, for sure do excursions. You don't want to go all that way and then miss some of the best historical sights in the world. I have cruised the Med twice and have another booked right now that I have already booked excursions for. It would help to know which cruise you are taking and what port stops you will have. Not all cruises of the Med are the same and the ports are also different. It also makes a difference what cruise port you depart from. So I'll go over some of the ports I have been to and give you a suggestion on each.
Both of my Med cruises (and the one we have booked) departed from Barcelona. If you fly into Barcelona and you have time before the cruise departs or after it returns and before your flight (like late afternoon) you can tour Barcelona on your own. We are going to use this hop-on hop-off bus to tour when we return there. http://www.barcelona-on-line.es/eng/reserves/bus_turistic.htm
Nice/Monte Carlo: We did a ship's tour at this stop but I was not impressed with it. My advice is go on your own.
Florence/Pisa (Luverno): In my opinion the Leaning Tower of Pisa is a must and Florence was nice also. You can do both in one day. We did but it was a rushed tour. But if you want to book your own try this web site: http://www.viator.com/Florence/d519-ttd
and:
http://www.italyguides.it/us/pisa/pisa_italy.htm
Naples: Naples you can do on your own, even if you want to go to Pompeii which I highly recommend. http://www.viator.com/Naples/d508-ttd
Rome: Rome is a MUST do on any Med cruise but my advice is to book with the cruise line for this one port because the cruise pier is a good hour by car, bus or train from the city. I have read reviews where people made their own arrangements and the train station to take you to Rome is not too far from the pier. BUT, if you go on your own and are late getting back you do run the chance of being left behind; they WILL leave you. But if you want to do your own touring this web site will help: http://www.viator.com/Rome/d511-ttd
AND:
http://www.limousineserviceinromeitaly.com/
http://mv.vatican.va/3_EN/pages/z-Info/MV_Info_Servizi_Visite.html
Athens: The port for Athens is about 20 miles from the city and you can get ab taxi and go on your own. But you better know where you are going as the street signs are in Greek. http://www.athensguide.org/
Santorini: No ship's tour necessary. Just take the tender boat ashore and ride the tram up to the city level. We did a tour but realized after wards that we didn't really see much.
Mykonos: go on your own. You can walk into town or take a shuttle bus.
Kusadasi (Ephesus): I suggest taking a ship's tour because Ephesus is a good half hour bus ride from the pier. http://www.kusadasi.net/
But if you want to book yourself you can do that online but you'll need to do a lot of research so you'll know what you want to see and how much it costs. Then you'll need to decide whether you want to book in advance on your own tours or wait until you get to the port city. My advice is book in advance.e web sites:"

...I recently asked a question about what people's opinion was on two different cruise lines. One girl said she would choose Celebrity over Royal but not if it was on the Millennium going out of San Juan. She said "if your Millennium cruise is departing from San Juan, that may affect the cruise experience." Why would she say this and is it true?
"I read that person's comment and I think it shows her (or someones') prejudices. I have done two cruises that departed from Puerto Rico and both were great. But I think what this person may be referring to is a reference to the passenger demographics on our last cruise departing from there. We did that cruise on the RC's Adventure of the Seas a couple yrs ago and although I didn't notice it when I booked the cruise, it turned out to be on Mother's day. I am not sure if or how that had an impact on demographics but as it turned out about 50% of the passengers were from Puerto Rico and a good number from Mexico. Now that didn't bother me one bit but it could well have made some closed minded people uncomfortable. But I think the real reason there were so many people on board from PR is that particular cruise date was really cheap. It was maybe $100 to $200 less per person than other weeks for the same cruise. So people who lived in PR could go for even less since they didn't have to pay air fare to get to PR. But the extremely low fare was just why I picked that date to go. On my previous cruise from PR on the Norwegian's Dreamward the demographics were not like that. So, in my opinion there is absolutely nothing wrong with cruising from PR.
I have cruised from Miami on dates that had real bargain fares and there were lots of Cubans and Hispanics on the ship because it was a cheap date to cruise. And I know for sure that there is nothing wrong with cruising on the Millennium, I just spent 2 weeks on it in February.
I have cruised on ships where there were lots of Orientals, and on others lots of Brazilians and Portuguese. But you never know when you cruise what the demographics will be; you just learn that people from places other than the US have somewhat different ways and deal with it. And then I have been on some cruises where most people were from the US and they got on my nerves too!! LOL"

...I am looking into working for a cruise line. I am looking at the Disney Cruise Line, Princess Cruise Line, and Norwegian Cruise Line. I was wondering if anybody had worked for these companie and what you thought of them or if you'd worked for another company and had an opinion one way or another.
Royal Caribbean is another one I'm curious about.
"Yes, this question is asked almost every day, so there are plenty of answers on this website. Otherwise, you can go to the cruise lines' websites and click on "employment".
Most cruise lines do not hire many Americans - don't think I've met any in the cruises I've taken. Americans generally would not want to work under the conditions required on a cruise ship. You have long contracts [six months or more], very long days and very long work weeks, crowded accommodations, low pay. And you sometimes cannot get off the ship at the ports you visit.
NCL does have one ship that has an American staff - the one that circles Hawaii - and it is notorious for poor service.
Working on a cruise ship is definitely not as glamorous as it sounds."

"Wear whatever your comfortable in and something cute too as your picture will be taken. Don't worry if your luggage does not arrive to your cabin before you go to dinner because on the first day, the cruise company knows that not everyone can dress for dinner, so whatever you have on is just fine."

...This is for people that have been on lots of cruises. What are your favorite destinations? What are your favorite cruise lines for the money? Any tips for saving money and having a good time?
"I have cruised on Princess, Holland America, Celebrity, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean and had cruises to South America, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Australia/New Zealand, Canada/New England, the Baltic countries, the Mediterranean, and all over the Caribbean including the Panama Canal. My favorite of all of these was the Mediterranean because of all of the fantastic and historical sights and cities to see, like Rome, Pisa, Pompeii, Spain, the Canary Islands, Gibraltar, Athens, and the Greek islands.
Cruising the Caribbean is great also and allows opportunity for great fun at the beaches, some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, except Hawaii is prettier. The Caribbean is really the best "fun" destinations for cruising.
My favorite cruise line is Royal Caribbean, but if you want just a little more upscale you may want to go with Princess or Celebrity. Royal Caribbean ships have the most activities on the ship for you and they do have great looking ships too. In my opinion Royal Caribbean also has the best and easiest web site to use and you can find deals on their site very easily compared to the others. But most do have specials listed on their web sites that will save you money.
The best way to save money is shop around and learn what a cruise should cost for the type cabin you want, the destination/itinerary you want and the number of days you want to cruise. So if you see an ad that says 40% off you will know whether that's a real deal or just a few dollars less than the normal prices for that type cruise on other cruise lines and ships. Booking early, up to a year or more in advance, can also save you money because as the cruise date approaches the prices generally increase. There are some exceptions to this where a "deal" or discount will be offered for a few days or week about 30 to 60 days before the cruise.
You don't have to worry about having a good time, you will, especially if you are on a Royal Caribbean ship."

...are there any non alcoholic beverages available for teens on cruise ships? im 17
like can i ask for a virgin daiquiri, margrita, etc
can anyone suggest any good virigin drinks for me also?
ok so ya im plannin on bringing 2 redbulls w/ me. im not goin to be drinking a lot. i just relly think that haveing a "fruity" drink on a cruise would be a cliche experience that i MUST do. ahah so any suggestions of virgin drinks? like fruity drinks?
"Yes the bars have a menu and on the back page is a list of Non-alcoholic drinks. I don't think you can really get a virgin margarita as that would just be sour mix.
But you can get any flavor daquiri--strawberry, mango which is my personal favorite, pineapple, etc. Many cruise lines have their own special mixtures too like a Carnival Fun Ship which is their own unique fruit punch blend. You can also ask the bartender to mix you a combination--like mango-pineapple daquiri or pina collada with some orange juice in as well. They would be more than willing to create some unique flavors just for you.
You can get a Bloody Mary virgin if you like v8. Pina Colada if you like coconut.
Just be aware that these are rather expensive. The mix is what you pay for not the alcohol so even a virgin drink will cost about $6-7 each."

...The interior rooms for a 7 night cruise is for about 700 dollars. is that only for one person? im confused because there are two twin beds on the picture. it wouldnt make sense to pay two full prices of 700 and stay in the same room. Thanks. I really want to go to one but i never took the time to do some research.
and can you guys give me advice on which cruiseline to take or whatever advice you can think of. I'm taking my girlfriend to our first cruise she doesnt know about it yet. We are 19yrs old if that matters =]. i know in some islands drinking age is lower than us age 21. One more question, Do we need visas or just passports. I am not US citizen, she is.
"Prices are per person. Yes I know it doesnt make sense to pay double, but they really want $1400 for that room and prices are based on double occupancy so they charge $700 per person.
And even though drinking ages vary in the islands, you must be at least 21 to cruise with Carnival unless you have a valid marriage certificate.
I hope you can find one, the major ones (Royal Caribbean, Disney, Holland America, Carnival, Princess, Etc.) are all at least 21, some even 25."

...Could you please give me some info. about this cruise. How was the food, activities, Would you go again? What was your experience like on this cruise?
"I am not a fan of Bahamas cruises. First many of the cruises to the Bahamas are short cruises. I prefer a 7 day to a 3-4 day every time.
Secondly I'm not a fan of the Bahamas as a port of call. Freeport is a terrible port with nothing there. They have a straw market which is completely Made In China. No local crafts or anything unique like you see in St Thomas straw markets or even San Juan.
Every straw market had the same sweatshirt, can coozy, and cheap tshirts. The prices were higher than the sweat shirt on the cruise ship. I was shocked that they wanted $60 on the island when it was $45 on the ship. Each stall has the exact same items so I walked around with $30 in my hand til I found someone who would give me the $10 sweatshirt for $30 cash. Then we immediately went back on board after being in Freeport for about 1-2 hrs. Everyone else was getting back on board too.
The best thing I can say about Freeport is that the ship spa is cheaper on days you are in port so it's a great stop to go to the spa.
Nassau is better but still very overpriced to buy anything. The best thing to do there is the day pass to Atlantis.
I don't feel the Bahama ports leave you with a good taste of the Caribbean. It also didn't leave me with a good taste of the island. Many cruises own a private island in the Bahamas which I think gives you a better feeling than the major cities.
Of course the food on any cruise ship is amazing. The newer the ship the better the ship will be as far as decor and activities. My personal opinion about Carnival though is that they put the better crew on the smaller ships. My cruise on the Inspiration was my favorite over the Destiny and the Glory.
The entertainment seems better and the staff more polite.
There is more food than you can imagine. There are more activities than you can imagine. Carnival has something going on every 15 minutes throughout the day. It really helps if you are trying to get out of the sun. Plus Carnival has more night life than many of the older people cruise lines (like Holland).
Personally I'd grab a cruise St Thomas and St Martin instead of the Bahamas unless you really want the 3-4 day cruise."

...I would like to take a cruise (another) and someone told me I could apply for a travel agent license and recieve deep discounts. I need to know
a) can i just apply for a license?
b) how much is it?
c) how to book cruise with a license number.
Also if anyone knows any other way besides the typical expedia; travelocity and such..
Any suggestion would be welcome.I am a past cruiser i know i can get that.
"Theres no quick and dirty way to get a travel agent licence that would get you cheap cruises. CLIA is the trade organization for the cruise industry (http://www.cruising.org/) and they have courses you need to take in order to get their licencing. Most cruise lines won't even give you a discount unless you are bringing a large group or if you sell very large numbers of cruise packages. If there was a quick way to become an agent and get cheap fares, everyone would have done it long ago. Don't fall for the online 'pay us $$$ and you become an instant agent' operations"

...I am buying a cruise for my boyfriend for his birthday. I have not bought the tickets yet. We will be traveling on Carnival's "Fascination". I have never been on a cruise. I need help with the following questions...
Should we stay on a lower or higher deck? Front or back???
Does it really matter if there is an "Ocean View"?
Is it hard to sneak alcohol on board?
We will be driving from Charleston, SC to Jacksonville, FL, so there is no need to stay over in Jacksonville. Is there parking at the cruise ship departure site?
Thanks in advance!!!
Does anyone have anymore tips for us?
I'm 30...so I'm not trying to underage drink just save some pennies!!!
"Lower level vs higher level- higher level rooms are usually the balcony and suites. It's closer to the "action" (disco, casino, etc). They feel more sway of the ship, just like the higher floors in a skyscrapper. Lower decks are usually the ocean view rooms. Lower has less sway.
Front or back? Doesn't matter at all. If you get motion sick, the middle is the best b/c it sways less but the front and the back are equal.
Does it matter if there is an ocean view? This is a question that causes a lot of controversy on this boards. Some people are of the opinion that if you book a nicer room you'll spend more time in it. Some people say you just sleep there so what's it matter? It really is up to you. Personally I have booked balconies before and think it's a waste of money. We usually book ocean view. My husband does get motion sick though so the interior is a bit difficult for him. However if money is an issue, the interior is a good deal cheaper and you have more money to spend on the cruise. Let me ask you this- when you go to Vegas, how important is your room? When you go to the beach, how important is the condo? That will answer if it's important to you. I'm one of those "a room is just a room" people--I never stay at hotels like Wynn, Ritz, George V.
Is it hard to sneak alcohol on board? From your departure port, not at all. You just walk on with it. Last cruise I brought many bottles of champagne for my sister's wedding. I've brought vodka onboard as well. No need to go to outrageous ideas like pouring it into contact lens solution bottles or anything like that. However the hard part is just mixing it. If you enjoy a night cap before bed of Scotch on the rocks it's great but if you want to mix...you have to carry it upstairs to get some juice, mix it, then walk all the way back down when you want a refill. In my opinion it's a waste of time. Plus most of the juices are behind the bar anyway and you have to pay for soda. A drink on Carnival is about $6-7, it's served in a large hurricane glass and it's very strong. A soda is $2 plus the cost of the alcohol your brought. I'm not sure it actually saves you money. Rum in the islands is very very cheap.
My alcohol tip- carry your souvenir glass around with you. When you get onboard they'll have a FunShip (my fav drink) in a souvenir glass. It's about $7-8. After that, you can get a refill for about $5-6. You can also get the drink of the day for the cheap price every day (for example you can drink Monday's drink on Thurs as well). I only drink the drinks of the day and that saves about $3 a drink.
Parking- Yes just like the airport they have port terminal parking. Just like the airport, it is expensive. That's why I recommend staying at a place like Hampton Inn where you can park your car for $20-30. However since you aren't staying the night, the parking garage at the port would be your best bet.
My best tips- carry snorkel gear with you. that way on the island you can just take a cab to a good snorkel location. carry aloe vera, motion sickness medicine, and a waterproof camera with you. they sell them onboard but the markup is outrageous. don't overpack. I never carry day clothing b/c I know I'm just going to be in a bathing suit every day. I carry multiple bathing suits and multiple coverups but no tshirts and shorts. Carry one soft thing with sleeves in case you get sunburned.
ENJOY!"

And, I have a cruise planned in June, so I can't go then, when all cruise lines have them for $299, why do they increase to $400-$500 in July and August?
Okay, pretty much all I wanted to know, is why were they so cheap in the first place...
But thanks to everyone who has answered!
"because july and august are summer vacations for schools, so more people will be willing to pay little more for it. Its simple supply and demand economics stuff."

...My husband are thinking about an Alaskan cruise next year for our anniversary (cruises are CHEAP right now). We will be going just the two us (no kids), we are in our late 30's, it will be my first time to cruise, and we would like to depart from Los Angeles. Low key with lots of options sounds great! Any suggestions?
"First of all very few cruises, with the exception of a repositioning cruise, leave from Los Angeles. In all probability you would have to fly from LA to either Seattle or Vancouver to joint the cruise although you can combine airfare and the cruise into one package. Most of the cruise lines operatin on the Alaska run are quite nice. I am a Royal Caribbean fan however a friend enjoys the Holland America ships. The question you have to answer is what type of cruise you are looking for and what is it you want to do. Royal Caribbean is a good middle of the road type line with a variety of activites available both on and off the ship. However most ships tend towards similar activities, the main difference is the age of the passengers they focus on. I would suggest either Royal Caribbean, Holland America, or Princess for your cruise or Celebrity if you want a bit more luxury.. Take some time to research what ships will be sailing the route, they change from year to year, and the facilities on them. A good travel agent can assist you in this and Vacationstogo.com has many of the cruises listed with good reviews of the individual ships."
